[00:00:00] Dr. Wendy Myers: These heavy metals, they affect our hormones. They affect our ability to lose weight. They affect our thyroid, which sets our metabolism. They affect your gut and your ability to absorb food. They affect your liver and its ability to digest food, absorb it, and metabolize your hormones. And so there's many, many, many.
[00:00:18] Dr. Wendy Myers: Systems that heavy metals and chemicals affect that will interfere in weight loss.
[00:00:24] Carrie Lupoli: All right, so let's say you're doing everything right. You're eating clean, you're working out, you're tracking your blood sugar, you're doing your morning time, you're managing stress. You're super consistent and the scale still won't move.
[00:00:34] Carrie Lupoli: You've been doing this for a while and you're like, what's going on? What if the reason that so many women aren't able to lose weight despite doing everything right? It's a toxicity problem. We're living in the most chemically saturated time in human history. The average person carries hundreds of chemicals in their body.
[00:00:54] Carrie Lupoli: Heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, lead, they're quietly [00:01:00] interfering with thyroid function, insulin regulation, cortisol protection, liver health, and even the size and number of fat cells. And here's the scary part. Your body may actually be using the fat to protect you. So today I am sitting down with Dr.
[00:01:14] Carrie Lupoli: Wendy Meyers. She's a naturopathic doctor and founder of Myers detox.com. She's going to unpack a conversation that literally nutrition certifications, doctors, they, they don't even touch. So. Let's get going.
[00:01:31] Carrie Lupoli: So welcome diet disruptors. Today we have Dr. Wendy Meyers. She's a, she's a naturopathic doctor, and we are talking all about with her today. Detoxing from Heavy Metals. She's the founder of Myers detox.com. She's an internationally recognized expert on heavy metal detox. We've never had anybody on the show talk about this before, so I'm super excited about it.
[00:01:56] Carrie Lupoli: We're gonna talk about anti-aging biogenetics. [00:02:00] She is a sought after speaker host of the Top 50 ranking podcast called Myers Detox Podcast and number one bestselling author. Her mission is to educate and inspire the globe. About biogenetics and detoxing from our increasingly toxic world with Dr. Myers.
[00:02:18] Carrie Lupoli: We are gonna combat disease, we're gonna increase longevity, all the things that I love to talk about. So Wendy, I'm so excited that you're here. Thank you for joining us. We have so much to talk about.
[00:02:29] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. And thanks for having me.
[00:02:30] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And, and side note, I think it's so great that you and I both like picked up our families and moved to Mexico for a little while.
[00:02:38] Carrie Lupoli: That is like a very rare common thing that you and I share.
[00:02:42] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah,
[00:02:42] Carrie Lupoli: I think that's very
[00:02:43] Dr. Wendy Myers: cool. I did, I moved down there. I loved it. I only came back 'cause my daughter wanted to go to high school in the United States. Um, but yeah, I, in Mexico.
[00:02:51] Carrie Lupoli: Mine the same thing. 'cause they were in middle school when we went and, uh, they wanted to, uh, get back to, I, I had promised 'em they could have high school for four [00:03:00] years in one place.
[00:03:00] Carrie Lupoli: So that was my commitment to them. But let's talk about why we are actually here. We're gonna talk about toxins that actually are preventing weight loss. We're gonna talk about how to detox them. We have so much, but like this is a very specific field to be in. So let's talk first about how you even got here.
[00:03:18] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, well it was 'cause I wasn't losing weight. Okay. So, um, I was about 37, I about a year out from my pregnancy and I just, I just wasn't losing weight like I used to. And um, and I was also having like hormone issues and, you know, I went to my doctor and said, figure out what's wrong with me there. 'cause I just felt intuitively something was off.
[00:03:40] Carrie Lupoli: Let me guess. They didn't have an answer.
[00:03:42] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, well, no, they, well, they just found I had low hormones. I had the hormone levels of a menopausal woman at 37 and that I, uh, that I had, um, adrenal fatigue and low cortisol and just all these different things and it just didn't add up to me. 'cause I had. Such a healthy diet.
[00:03:59] Dr. Wendy Myers: And
[00:03:59] Carrie Lupoli: so that [00:04:00] was what I was gonna ask you. You were pretty healthy,
[00:04:02] Dr. Wendy Myers: am
[00:04:02] Carrie Lupoli: I right? Yeah,
[00:04:02] Dr. Wendy Myers: I was very healthy. Yeah. And I just, I was doing all of the things. I was sleeping. I, you know, I, I just, uh, I just couldn't figure out what was going on. I was taking all these amazing supplements. I was working out every day and I was checking all the boxes.
[00:04:15] Dr. Wendy Myers: Um, so I knew something was off. And then I started searching on the, on, you know, the internet. Like what causes adrenal fatigue. And I just happened upon this website that talked about heavy metals and how heavy metals interfere in your hormones and your stress hormones, your adrenals. And I thought, huh?
[00:04:31] Dr. Wendy Myers: I, I've heard of that, but I, I thought of it as, you know, mercury, mercury feelings. So I did have those. Um, but you know, when you're healthy, you just don't think that those toxins apply to you.
[00:04:42] Carrie Lupoli: Well, it's interesting that you say that because a lot of people that I'll work with, they, I, I said, we gotta get to base camp first, right?
[00:04:48] Carrie Lupoli: Like, we gotta get that little, that level of foundation because like you knew there was something else going on. But when we've got so many different factors and we're eating fast food every day, or [00:05:00] processed food every day, I mean, it's just so hard to be able to figure it out. We gotta get to this place and then we can really hear our body.
[00:05:06] Carrie Lupoli: Speak to us. So it seems like that's what happened
[00:05:08] Dr. Wendy Myers: to you. Yeah. And I thought, you know, how do I have the hormone levels of a menopausal woman at 37? Like, it just, what, what causes that? And so, uh, when I did a heavy metals test and lo and behold I had high heavy metals, mercury, arsenic. Uh, I had a cesium meth, thallium uranium, and I was like, where could I get all these things?
[00:05:27] Dr. Wendy Myers: And, uh, so I just went down this rabbit hole. And, uh, and come to find out, you know, these heavy metals, they affect our hormones. They affect our ability to lose weight. They affect our thyroid, which sets our metabolism. They affect your gut and your ability to absorb food. They affect your liver and its ability to digest food, absorb it, and metabolize your hormones.
[00:05:48] Dr. Wendy Myers: And so there's many, many, many. Systems that heavy metals and chemicals affect that will interfere and weight loss also cause the toxins are the number one cause of [00:06:00] diabetes. It's the number one cause and so people just '
[00:06:05] Carrie Lupoli: cause they're throwing off your whole blood sugar, all your glucose, like your body can't actually get into balance.
[00:06:10] Carrie Lupoli: I love that you talk about that because you know what I talk about when it comes to blood sugar and food and all of those things and it's like. This is a missing piece of the equation that we are No, we're not talking about.
[00:06:20] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. And I think people spend so much time blaming themselves, much like I did, uh, that they don't have the willpower or they just eat less and exercise more and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[00:06:29] Dr. Wendy Myers: And you know, you, you need to detox to fix your metabolism. You have to address the underlying root cause. And many times, people, uh, you know, are. Very toxic. They store their fat soluble toxins in their fat and the body won't let it go because it needs that as a storage receptacle.
[00:06:50] Carrie Lupoli: It's actually protecting you, which is amazing, but it's not what we want, you know?
[00:06:54] Carrie Lupoli: And it's so interesting too, because I have probably. Six or seven different [00:07:00] nutrition and wellness certifications, women's health, you know, everything. And this is not something that gets brought up in these certifications. And so I, I am part of all these groups, right? And they're all like my, you know, client can't lose weight and all of this stuff.
[00:07:16] Carrie Lupoli: And nobody brings this up as one of the players that we need to consider.
[00:07:20] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, absolutely. And you know, for me, I, 'cause I was doing everything right. You know, I was working out 68 hours a week and eating, like, going to bed hungry, and I thought if I did this in my twenties, I would be an Olympic athlete, you know, and, and it's just the, the needle wasn't moving.
[00:07:34] Dr. Wendy Myers: And that, that has happened for many of my clients. They're waking up and they're working out and they're, they're doing the no carb and the, the, they're doing all kinds of stuff and it just, it isn't moving, and this is why. I mean, yeah, you've gotta get your basics, your blood sugar regulated and things like that.
[00:07:50] Dr. Wendy Myers: But for many people, you know, arsenic and iron toxicity and other heavy metals interfere in your pancreas's ability to regulate your blood sugar. And, [00:08:00] uh, arsenic is where the number one causes, and that's found in conventional eggs, conventional chickens that are not organic. Uh, it's found in, uh, our water supply.
[00:08:10] Dr. Wendy Myers: And many other different places. And so, uh, people, I really, for me, I'm very passionate about this. I've said this for the last 15 years, uh, to really drive the point home that if you, not only for weight loss, but for your overall health, uh, and longevity. 'cause these, these heavy metals affect, they poison our mitochondria.
[00:08:31] Dr. Wendy Myers: They, uh, cause Alzheimer's and dementia. They cause heart disease, like lead is one of the number one cause of fatal heart attacks. Um, it's just, uh, people do, and this is all in the research. I have a thousand articles on my website all based in research that you can look up yourself. And so I think, uh, there's, you know, there's a gravity to this where the.
[00:08:53] Dr. Wendy Myers: These heavy metals and chemicals like herbicides and pesticides and glyphosate and these other things are obesogenic [00:09:00] chemicals. So they, they cause your stem cells to turn into fat cells. They, and they cause your fat cells to grow larger, uh, than they normally would. And they just really is set that these heavy metals and chemicals set the stage for people to be obese.
[00:09:15] Dr. Wendy Myers: So it's, it's, and you can see a direct, direct correlation between the increase in use of pesticides and the increase in obesity rates. It's a direct correlation. Um,
[00:09:27] Carrie Lupoli: yes, I have. I mean, you'll know the exact numbers on this, but I have looked at like, how many people do you think, and especially because this is a, this is the people that you work with have these heavy metals in their system.
[00:09:44] Carrie Lupoli: Did you say everybody?
[00:09:45] Dr. Wendy Myers: Everyone, yes. There's one exception. There are some people that won the genetic detox lottery where those people that can drink and smoke until they're a hundred.
[00:09:55] Carrie Lupoli: Oh right.
[00:09:55] Dr. Wendy Myers: And they're fine. Or are people that are really bad at alcoholics that can drink, you know, [00:10:00] 10 bottles of alcohol a day and they still can.
[00:10:03] Dr. Wendy Myers: Show up to work, those people, um, are able to detox much better than the average person. So it's like a bell curve. You know, you have people that are super toxic, can't detox those, the very, very sick ones, typically debilitated chronic fatigue, can't work, uh, you know, have multiple complex chronic illness and to the other normal people, and then the people that can.
[00:10:25] Dr. Wendy Myers: Do whatever they wanna do. They can drink or smoke and live to a hundred. And so there's a handful of, you know, small percentage of people that may not be very toxic in any way that meaningful affects their health. But for the majority of people, the toxins are affecting you and they're causing brain fog.
[00:10:41] Dr. Wendy Myers: They're causing fatigue, they're causing weight gain. A resistant weight loss and they're causing all these kind of mild symptoms that just they're never going to pinpoint and their doctor's not ever gonna pinpoint, uh, to heavy metals and chemicals.
[00:10:56] Carrie Lupoli: Because that brings me to the fact that your doctors aren't gonna pinpoint [00:11:00] this.
[00:11:00] Carrie Lupoli: Is because we're not testing for this kind of stuff. When you said you tested, and this was like 15 years ago, right?
[00:11:07] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah.
[00:11:07] Carrie Lupoli: Like that, that wasn't, I mean, we're hearing more, you know, we hear more and more and more now about glyphosate and all of the things that are going on in our foods, but this conversation wasn't happening 15 years ago.
[00:11:16] Carrie Lupoli: Oh, it doesn't at all. So where does one go now to be able to even test for seeing what their levels are?
[00:11:23] Dr. Wendy Myers: Well, I really like hair mineral analysis. This, it's called HTMA. It's a really good, non-invasive, inexpensive test, gives you a lot of information about your heavy metals. You know, the, the tests for chemicals are not.
[00:11:36] Dr. Wendy Myers: So amazing. But, um, there, you know, the I test that I took was a thousand dollars, uh, for chemicals and metals. Um, I forget the name of it off the top of my head. Um, but the, the tests are out there. The, that's at like md lifespan.com where you can do that, that chemical test. But the thing is, everyone has chemicals.
[00:11:56] Dr. Wendy Myers: I mean, it's just. Everybody has those. You know, the World Health [00:12:00] Organization has done tests that found that people had on average 500 chemicals in their body. So, you know, you just need to get detoxing, uh, you know, doing, and we'll get into that and have to do that a
[00:12:10] Carrie Lupoli: second.
[00:12:10] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah,
[00:12:10] Carrie Lupoli: yeah. Because at some point, knowing that like.
[00:12:13] Carrie Lupoli: Everybody has this stuff going on. There's like, we can test for it to see what levels are and things like that, but at the end of the day, this is likely something that everybody needs to address and be aware of. Yes. So what are some of those simple detox tips that people could begin doing today to start to mitigate this issue?
[00:12:35] Dr. Wendy Myers: You know, one of the easiest things and most effective is taking minerals. Very, very simple because minerals, they occupy the same binding sites and the body as heavy metals. And so when the body doesn't have zinc to repair arteries, it'll use cadmium, which is, uh, you know, causes more cancers than all the other heavy metals combined.
[00:12:57] Dr. Wendy Myers: Uh, so it, if it doesn't have the preferred mineral, it'll [00:13:00] use a metal. Or to prop up the body and repair something in some way. Oh, interesting.
[00:13:04] Carrie Lupoli: That is what's so fascinating about our body, right? Like we get so frustrated with our body sometimes, especially as women, but when if we could see what's going on behind the scenes of our body working so hard to try to keep us alive and living.
[00:13:17] Carrie Lupoli: And it's just so interesting to, to hear you talk about if your body doesn't have those, it's gotta do some other things to try to still figure it out.
[00:13:26] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. If it doesn't have the. Premium building materials, right? Still use the crappy ones. It's it's use, use whatever it has to scrap everything together and repair things.
[00:13:34] Dr. Wendy Myers: So, um, so minerals take taking every day, all day long I'm taking minerals. So mag different forms of magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, potassium, trace minerals. I put sea salt in all of my water that's got a hundred trace minerals because, you know, if you're. Not only for detoxification, but if you don't have minerals, your body is just not gonna work well.
[00:13:57] Dr. Wendy Myers: Like, know the minerals or the smart plugs of the [00:14:00] body that are needed for all of our enzymatic processes. Um, but for detoxification, great to take them. Uh, I take selenium and lithium and, and other, other, uh, nutrients as well. Minerals as well. Um, then you can take detox supplements, like you can take binders.
[00:14:15] Dr. Wendy Myers: Like I have a product called Citra Cleanse. It's a. Fruit, citrus, backin, and that will just absorb toxins. It kind of works like a little sponge. It's a fiber and it'll absorb and, you know, kind of like a catcher's method. It'll catch on, uh, to different toxins and take them outta your body. Um, and then, and, and especially, you know, those, those are really effective.
[00:14:33] Dr. Wendy Myers: Like say if you drink alcohol. Or you go eat at a fast food restaurant or something, you can take some charcoal and it will absorb those toxins. They use that in the hospitals
[00:14:44] Carrie Lupoli: food poisoning. My father-in-law had food poisoning and he just, just took the charcoal and it was like, it sucked it all.
[00:14:51] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah.
[00:14:51] Carrie Lupoli: Sucked it all away. It was really incredible.
[00:14:53] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. Activated charcoal's very effective.
[00:14:55] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. So, okay, so when we're thinking about these, these minerals and stuff, and I know [00:15:00] that, um, I really wanna hear about like what, what a really effective protocol would be, but you're making me think about hydration products like electrolytes, right?
[00:15:09] Carrie Lupoli: Because that's what most people think about when they're thinking about, um. Minerals because they hear that electrolytes have them in there. What is your thinking around like a packaged electrolyte versus minerals that are either separate or however you are, you know, taking them?
[00:15:25] Dr. Wendy Myers: I'm not a fan of those.
[00:15:27] Dr. Wendy Myers: I mean, they're usually like studium, potassium and maybe a other things and you know, we need, it's
[00:15:31] Carrie Lupoli: a whole lot of garbage sometimes in there.
[00:15:33] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, we in far more than that and usually they're very expensive. Sea salt is really inexpensive, so. Just save your money and just put sea salt in your, your drink and then just drink, you know, juice, like orange juice, tons of sodium, potassium.
[00:15:48] Dr. Wendy Myers: You know, I drink juices all the time even though they have sugar in them. Um, but they're also in small amounts can be extremely nutritive. Like I drink apple juice, grape juice for your liver. I drink [00:16:00] pomegranate juice to clear fats outta the arteries. Um, I drink, um. Uh, I drink orange juice 'cause it's, it's super, uh, uh, rich in potassium and, and, and other, uh, minerals.
[00:16:12] Dr. Wendy Myers: And so these can be very nourishing to your body, even though technically they have sugar. You just in modest amounts with a meal.
[00:16:18] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. That's so interesting. Okay, so what would be like, like a typical person, and let me, before I even go there with the protocol, um, you're, you're just making me realize like you could go and get tested, right?
[00:16:29] Carrie Lupoli: And, and for sure, and I, I, I'm not saying anybody shouldn't, but it's like even if you got tested one time, if we're not figuring this out ongoing because we're constantly being inundated with toxins, then uh, it's not like we're gonna be able to do something once and then feel like, oh look, I got all the toxins out.
[00:16:46] Carrie Lupoli: We are gonna be battling this. All the time. It's like I live on the beach and like I can't just sweep the sand and think it's not gonna all come right back.
[00:16:53] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, exactly. You know, it's, we live in a very toxic world. We're exposed to these heavy metals in the air, food, and water. It [00:17:00] doesn't matter how vigilant you are with your diet, eating organic in your home, buying all non-toxic products.
[00:17:06] Dr. Wendy Myers: It's in the error, the error's, the number one way that we get a lot of toxins. So, um, you know, I do what I can, I don't stress myself out too much about it, but you know, you do wanna have a sensible detox plan and I can illustrate what's, yeah.
[00:17:19] Carrie Lupoli: So let's talk about what that would look like. Because we need simple, we need sensible, we need something that's sustainable.
[00:17:25] Carrie Lupoli: And I think that's the biggest thing. If you can't do this, it's like fad diets. I say all the time, is this something you can do sustainably? You know, and, and. We gotta make sure that if we're in implementing something, it's something that's not overly expensive and just too complicated. So what do you got for, what do you got for us, Wendy?
[00:17:42] Dr. Wendy Myers: So most if I could think you could do is infrared saunas. And so you
[00:17:45] Carrie Lupoli: Oh,
[00:17:46] Dr. Wendy Myers: you're
[00:17:46] Carrie Lupoli: speaking my language.
[00:17:48] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. Yeah. And you can do a regular sauna at your gym that you can't really stay in them that long. Um, but you wanna stay in minimum 20 minutes. That's really hard to do in a traditional. Finish or sweeter sauna, [00:18:00] that's just heat.
[00:18:01] Dr. Wendy Myers: That sounds, it's very hard to do. So an infrared sauna, um, uses infrared rays and it kind of, you know, heats your tissues up and not the ambient air. And so those are about one 40, maybe a little bit more. And so those, you can stay in for an hour. You know, and so there's different
[00:18:19] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah, I do mine every day.
[00:18:21] Carrie Lupoli: Every day. Yeah. I, I have a sunlight in sauna infrared. It's just fabulous.
[00:18:25] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. I have a sunlight in as well. And you know, and some people say do 20, 30 minutes a day. Other people say 60 to 90 minutes a couple times a week. And then, you know, there's a great, uh, the Ron l Hubbard protocol, um, it was, uh, that was actually created by Dan Root.
[00:18:42] Dr. Wendy Myers: Who is a medical doctor that detoxed, uh, firefighters, uh, nine 11, you know, responders, policemen who have, you know, extreme toxin exposures. And so he's got a great book called, uh, get Detox Inated. And so that's a really good guide to do [00:19:00] a really super effective son, a protocol. It's very intense. It's like a 30 day sauna protocol where you're, you're doing the sauna 75 minutes, um, a day.
[00:19:09] Dr. Wendy Myers: For like 30 days. But it, it's, it works. It's medically proven. They've got tons of research behind it, so.
[00:19:15] Carrie Lupoli: Awesome. We'll put that in the note so people can go and grab that. That's, I love that you talked about Sauna as one of the first things I, I call it a supplement because I say it's supplemental. Uh, you know, and just like this is a supplemental practice, but it is so, so, so important.
[00:19:30] Carrie Lupoli: It's just. Like, you can't do sauna and then go eat and do whatever you want. Right? Like there's gotta be this balance behind this. But I love that you brought that up right away.
[00:19:38] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. And the sauna's great. I mean, there's a lot of research that shows that people that do it, uh, five days a week, they, they have something like a 50% reduction or 40% reduction in all cause mortality.
[00:19:50] Carrie Lupoli: Yes. And 65% reduction in Alzheimer's.
[00:19:53] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes, yes. And like 50% reduction in heart attacks and just crazy numbers. Crazy.
[00:19:58] Carrie Lupoli: And in some of our longest [00:20:00] studies, like we don't have studies that go as long as some of these sauna studies go, especially this one in Sweden. Like, it's just absolutely insane.
[00:20:06] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. And it, and part of it is the, the detox part of it is the relaxing of your cardiovascular system.
[00:20:11] Dr. Wendy Myers: You're getting into parasympathetic. Relaxing, you're lowering your blood pressure when you're doing it. It's great. A great treatment for blood pressure as well to, you wanna get off your meds
[00:20:20] Carrie Lupoli: and the best part is like, you know how we all want easy and like we don't love, like I don't love working out. I do workout every day, but Right.
[00:20:27] Carrie Lupoli: I don't love it. This is like, like spa.
[00:20:30] Dr. Wendy Myers: It's a passive workout too.
[00:20:31] Carrie Lupoli: Yes, exactly.
[00:20:32] Dr. Wendy Myers: For calories. Yeah,
[00:20:34] Carrie Lupoli: exactly. Women in there. Exactly. Okay, so what else you got for us?
[00:20:37] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. And so the next thing would be, uh, ionic foot baths. So these, I absolutely love these. These are, uh, super, super and they're very easy to do 'cause not everyone can do a sauna.
[00:20:48] Dr. Wendy Myers: Some people are too sick, they're too old, too young to do a sauna. And so a detox foot bath is a great weight, very easy. Put your foot in some water, put some salt in it, turn it on, [00:21:00] and the, the water turns green or brown or black. It's really disgusting. Uh, but over time the water gets lighter and lighter and lighter as you kind of release your loads.
[00:21:09] Dr. Wendy Myers: Or Toif load into the water.
[00:21:11] Carrie Lupoli: So interesting. Okay. So what kind of salt are we putting in for this?
[00:21:15] Dr. Wendy Myers: It's just a sea salt.
[00:21:17] Carrie Lupoli: So the same kind of salt that you were talking about for your water?
[00:21:20] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, so it just conducts the electricity that's being, the ions that are being released into the water.
[00:21:26] Carrie Lupoli: So interesting.
[00:21:27] Carrie Lupoli: I love that. These are so easy. These are tips that anybody can do. All right, let's keep going.
[00:21:31] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, and the eye on a foot bath. It, it's amazing. You know, I did a webinar on it and there's a chiropractor that's worked with 1800 patients and he, he just said it's unbelievable how it can. You know, uh, drain lymphatic fluid, how it can stop pain, how it can, uh, people have like a wound that's not healing.
[00:21:50] Dr. Wendy Myers: Just there's so many different things when you start just unburdening the toxins or unburden the body of these different toxins that it just gets the, the [00:22:00] body is allowed to heal. The body is able to function better when it gets these roadblocks to functioning and healing out of the way. So you just,
[00:22:08] Carrie Lupoli: oh, and so we're using Seesaw in warm water.
[00:22:11] Carrie Lupoli: I imagine, yeah, I use
[00:22:12] Dr. Wendy Myers: warm water 'cause it's more comfortable.
[00:22:13] Carrie Lupoli: Okay. And is there any sort of like, uh, proportion to salt and water or you just sprinkling it on
[00:22:19] Dr. Wendy Myers: it? No, you just, you just have to follow the directions with Okay. Every foot bath is different, but you know, there's, uh, there's, the one that I use is the ion Max five, so that's at health and med.com.
[00:22:31] Dr. Wendy Myers: So that's the one that I use.
[00:22:33] Carrie Lupoli: All right. I'm writing this down as you talk so we can have it in our, in our notes. That's great. Okay.
[00:22:37] Dr. Wendy Myers: It's called in med.com.
[00:22:39] Carrie Lupoli: Okay. Perfect, perfect, perfect. All right. And, um, how, how often are people doing that? How often are you doing that? I should say
[00:22:46] Dr. Wendy Myers: you can do a foot bath every day if you want.
[00:22:48] Dr. Wendy Myers: Some people like to just a few a week. But it, it's, it's really interesting. I was doing them really consistently. And they're great for weight loss too, because when you get rid of all these toxins
[00:22:57] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah, of course,
[00:22:58] Dr. Wendy Myers: you know, you, uh, you know, you start [00:23:00] losing weight. Um, but, so, uh, I was doing the, probably had done the foot bath for three months in a row, super consistently.
[00:23:08] Dr. Wendy Myers: I was even doing three or four a day 'cause I was really just trying to accept that time, accelerate my weight loss and, um. So I left, I went to Los Angeles for a month and came back. So I hadn't done any foot valves. And then the water would've been fairly clear, like as I had just, you know, got rid of a lot of toxins,
[00:23:26] Carrie Lupoli: which is sort of a good little assessment in and of itself in terms of we, where your toxicity is, right?
[00:23:31] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. So I, I go to la I go to LAI Reox, I come back and the water was black. It was black from, uh, for a week.
[00:23:42] Carrie Lupoli: That is so crazy.
[00:23:44] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. I, I was really shocked by that.
[00:23:46] Carrie Lupoli: But what a cool evening routine. I, I think I'll, you know, we talk so much about sleep and how important it is and having a routine. I feel like that doing that at night before you go to bed could be a really nice, like entry into sleep [00:24:00] and it's like a good replacement behavior from just that glass of wine at night.
[00:24:04] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. And you can do it while you're watching tv. You can do it while working. It doesn't have to take up any extra time in your day.
[00:24:09] Carrie Lupoli: Right. Awesome. Awesome. What else?
[00:24:12] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. Okay. Yeah, so there's a IIC foot bath. Um, you know, there's, um, those are basically the main protocols. I commend recommended people, but also liver care because you are, you know, one in a hundred, there's a hundred million people in the United States alone that have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
[00:24:31] Dr. Wendy Myers: I
[00:24:31] Carrie Lupoli: know. I mean, so many of my clients, it is unbelievable.
[00:24:34] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah.
[00:24:34] Carrie Lupoli: It's, and they're not, they're not alcoholics.
[00:24:36] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. And so you're, that you're gonna, you're not
[00:24:37] Carrie Lupoli: alcoholic.
[00:24:38] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. So you have fatty liver, essentially just fatty deposits in your liver that interfere in its function. And so you don't want that. You want your liver functioning to detox you to digest your food.
[00:24:51] Dr. Wendy Myers: 'cause you don't digest your food properly and absorb it. You're gonna be constantly craving food. Because your, your liver, it can't do its job. And also it needs to metabolize your [00:25:00] hormones. Your hormones are outta balance. You're not gonna sleep well. You're gonna be moody craving food on and on and on.
[00:25:06] Carrie Lupoli: What about the coffee is so detoxifying?
[00:25:11] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. So what it does is it, um, it's got palmitic acid and it's got the caffeine. When you put that in your rectum, you stimulate the portal vein and you start it, that goes up the portal vein, the caffeine, and it irritates the liver. It has like a hormetic effect and it dilates all the cap capillaries.
[00:25:30] Dr. Wendy Myers: And so, and that ends up, uh. Purging the liver, it will purge the bile into the intestines and the bile holds a lot of different toxins. It'll irritate the gallbladder and that stimulate the gallbladder that holds bile. It's like a little sack that holds bile, and so you just kind of purge the liver, whatever, uh, it has in it.
[00:25:49] Dr. Wendy Myers: They're incredible way to detox your body to promote liver health and just get your body working better overall. And, um, I just, uh, I think. Once people [00:26:00] start doing them, they definitely, uh, don't look back. They, they wanna keep doing them, but
[00:26:05] Carrie Lupoli: that's what I hear. Start
[00:26:07] Dr. Wendy Myers: again.
[00:26:07] Carrie Lupoli: I feel like you wanna get through that first time, that first step you get.
[00:26:11] Carrie Lupoli: I bought all the stuff. Wendy, I literally bought, my friend was like, I will, I will FaceTime you. We'll do it together. I bought all the stuff and then I didn't do it.
[00:26:20] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. I've definitely have held people's hands through doing it for sure. Um, but it's, it's. Once you start them, you realize how much better you feel when you're doing them and how terrible you feel when you don't do them.
[00:26:33] Carrie Lupoli: Wow.
[00:26:33] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. You notice a big, big, big difference. Like, so I had a period of two months where I'd stopped doing them. I got blackheads all over my skin all, and as soon as I started the, the coffee ands again, everything disappeared. Because whatever your body isn't able to detox, well, it'll start coming out through your skin.
[00:26:52] Dr. Wendy Myers: And people have all kinds of toxic deposits in their skin. The sauna helps with that as well. But the sauna really decongest the skin.
[00:26:59] Carrie Lupoli: So [00:27:00] if we're going step by step
[00:27:02] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, step
[00:27:02] Carrie Lupoli: by step sauna, ionic foot bath. And then you can take your stand, your, you know, your try at the coffee.
[00:27:07] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. You just incorporate what you have the time and energy and, and set up to do.
[00:27:12] Dr. Wendy Myers: But you know, the more you do, the more payoff you have. You know, I'm 53. I feel, I feel better than I have ever felt. I feel way better than I felt in my thirties and my twenties even. Um, and it's just 15 years of dedicated detoxification. I.
[00:27:28] Carrie Lupoli: And you know, it, it, it goes to your why, because there's no way, like if, if, if, if we're committed to doing this stuff and those people that wanna do like the dua coffee enema, for example, like to me weight loss in and of itself is, is a, a drive around what other people kind of think of us, or our feelings of, of our own kind of, you know, I, I talk all the time about our own self-worth and things like that, being in what we look like, but if we really recognize how we are all like here.
[00:27:57] Carrie Lupoli: A purpose. Purpose and wanna stay [00:28:00] alive and living for as long as possible. These things are like, it keeps us sustaining them. Right? It keeps us consistent because the why is so much deeper. Yeah. And so I think we just have to kind of remember that kind of stuff and, and know that these are. Pieces of the puzzle that we all need to understand.
[00:28:16] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. And it sounds like a lot, but once you start incorporating this stuff, like you wanna do it, like I
[00:28:21] Carrie Lupoli: Right.
[00:28:22] Dr. Wendy Myers: Look forward to doing, uh, my liver flushing and I look forward to, to doing my, my infrared sauna and, and the, the ion footpaths really, really easy. But it, he's dividends. It absolutely does because heavy metals are one of the number one roadblocks to people's health.
[00:28:40] Dr. Wendy Myers: And that they're not getting these answers at their doctor, and most functional medical doctors aren't looking at this either as an underlying root cause to symptoms.
[00:28:48] Carrie Lupoli: Isn't that so interesting?
[00:28:49] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah.
[00:28:50] Carrie Lupoli: Now and, and I think that if we actually really look at like time, and I, I do a lot of time management stuff with my clients because that's like the number one thing, right?
[00:28:59] Carrie Lupoli: I don't have time, I don't have [00:29:00] time to do this. But when we really are intentional about our time and we're not robots, but intentional and we find ways that we can incorporate this into our everyday living and be honest about the things that we are doing that actually aren't moving us forward at all.
[00:29:13] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah.
[00:29:13] Carrie Lupoli: Binge watching shows or, you know. Scrolling on our phone where we can be doing some other things a little more intentionally that Yeah, I scroll on
[00:29:21] Dr. Wendy Myers: the sauna. I
[00:29:22] Carrie Lupoli: scroll on the sauna. I go live every morning on Instagram from my sauna for my morning time because it works out really well. If I'm gonna be in there anyway, I'll go, that's, that's how I can show up live.
[00:29:33] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. I'm not scrolling unless I'm doing something else for my health. Like I'm sitting, you know, in my bioenergetic software, I'm doing a copy enema or I'm gonna be doing. You know, multitasking. So I, I don't scroll just to scroll. I have to be doing something else.
[00:29:46] Carrie Lupoli: I, I think that's a really great, that's really great advice because then you get, kind of get a two for one there.
[00:29:52] Carrie Lupoli: Um, so when you're, when clients come to you, how are you working with them? Are you assessing, are you helping them with these protocols? [00:30:00] Tell us exactly what you do with clients on a regular basis.
[00:30:02] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah. So I will do a hair barrel analysis on them. Absolutely. 'cause you know, you wanna get a baseline of. You know, just check in what your toxin levels are and then, you know, every six months to a year, uh, you can just, you know, you want to gauge what you're doing is working or course correct, you know, and you look at what heavy metals you have, you can take specific supplements to detox those heavy metals.
[00:30:23] Dr. Wendy Myers: So I'll, I'll design a customized supplement protocol, uh, for my clients and that, you know, and just hold their hand, ask. 'em lots of questions. Do 'em like a supplement audit, what's worth it to take? What it's kind of a waste of their time or Usually people need to take better forms of what they're taking for it to be most more effective.
[00:30:41] Dr. Wendy Myers: There's lots of garbage supplements out there and, um, you know, just hold their hand to, to, on their detox program and answer all of their questions and things like that.
[00:30:50] Carrie Lupoli: I love that. I love that. So where can people find you, learn more about your work, because it's fascinating. I love that we can go right to your website and find research.
[00:30:59] Carrie Lupoli: So tell us [00:31:00] all where it is.
[00:31:00] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yes. So you can go on myers detox.com, any spelling will get you there. Um, you can find me.
[00:31:05] Carrie Lupoli: Hey, that's smart. I, yes. Yeah.
[00:31:07] Dr. Wendy Myers: So you can, uh, find me on Myers Detox and all the social media and on YouTube at Wendy Myers. So and so, I have tons of free content. I have over almost 650 podcasts at this point.
[00:31:18] Dr. Wendy Myers: I've been doing the podcast for 14 years and wow, you know, a thousand articles on my website. All of that free, if you wanna just dig right in.
[00:31:28] Carrie Lupoli: I love that and, and you know, when people have been doing this for a long time and have been able to not just have the experience but also have the time to be able to like put that kind of stuff on your site.
[00:31:40] Carrie Lupoli: Like it's just such a value add for everyone. So I'm so excited that you were here. You opened my eyes. I know you opened my listener's eyes, so go check out Wendy. Go. Follow her. Listen to her podcast. I was a guest on her podcast too, so that's kind of fun as well.
[00:31:55] Dr. Wendy Myers: Yeah, I uh,
[00:31:55] Carrie Lupoli: I have a quiz.
[00:31:56] Dr. Wendy Myers: I have a quiz also, you can go to heavy metals [00:32:00] quiz.com and you can see how toxic you are and then get a little bit more info and like how to move forward and what to do next.
[00:32:05] Carrie Lupoli: Got it. We'll put all this into the show notes and, uh, we're so excited to be able to have this. Thank you so much for enlightening us and for sharing with us, and I'm so glad you're part of our community.
[00:32:14] Dr. Wendy Myers: Right, and thanks for having me. All
[00:32:16] Carrie Lupoli: right.
