You Don’t Need To Fix Your Body To Be Worthy - 291
Sometimes the number on the scale keeps distracting you from what actually matters. For years, women have been taught to measure their health by weight, appearance, and perfection, but true health is about how you feel, how you show up, and whether you are taking care of yourself from a place of self-worth.
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, a board-certified naturopathic doctor, New York Times bestselling author, and weight-loss and anti-aging expert, for a conversation that goes far beyond food. We talk about aging, confidence, comparison, identity, and what it means to make health choices from the crown instead of the corset.
We explore how the habits we build can either come from fear or from a genuine belief that we are worth caring for. The goal should never be about just losing weight. The goal has to be about becoming the healthiest, strongest, most aligned version of yourself.
Conclusion:
Health is not about punishment or perfection. It’s about choosing habits that allow you to show up fully for your purpose, your family, and your future. The number on the scale doesn’t determine your value. The way you choose to care for yourself does.

[00:00:00] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Scale is not even in my ethos. I remember somebody was here, my apartment, and they had asked if I had a scale. I honestly could not answer that question. I said, "I don't know, maybe I bought one years ago." "You're nutrition, what do you mean you don't have a scale?" To me, there are so many more efficient markers than the scale, and we're gonna learn more and more about that as time transcends on.
[00:00:20] Carrie Lupoli: Well, hey there, Crown Straighteners. Whatever is tightening your corset today, welcome. You're in the right place. And today I am fan-girling because we have on somebody that I have followed forever. I can't even believe she was able to come on our show. More than 30 years teaching women how to actually take care of themselves, Dr.
[00:00:39] Carrie Lupoli: Kellyann. You may know her as, like, the bone broth lady. That's actually how I knew her. I have bought her bone broth forever, but I did not realize not only the decades of experience that she had, but how she was trained. She was trained in European medicine, studying for years that foundational ecosystem that we are, like, just starting to talk about [00:01:00] here in the United States.
[00:01:00] Carrie Lupoli: She was decades ahead of its time. Her training then brought her to multiple best-selling books, a PBS special that actually went head-to-head with Downton Abbey, I did not know that, and then a supplement company that I have known about but I didn't realize she has had more than two million customers. But here's what's really cool.
[00:01:18] Carrie Lupoli: We didn't really talk that much about bone broth. She and I just dug into what it means to be in the health field as a woman still wrestling with her own corset. Dr. Kellyann and I got personal. We even talked about makeup, aging, the scale, comparison, what it means to actually function from self-worth and self-trust instead of pressure and performance.
[00:01:42] Carrie Lupoli: So if you have kind of ever been in that position of feeling like, "Ugh, I got a lot of pressure going on," this conversation's gonna be for you. If you have followed Kellyann for years and years like I have, you're gonna learn about her in ways that you never knew. So let's get started.[00:02:00]
[00:02:04] Carrie Lupoli: Well, welcome everyone. We are here to straighten each other's crowns, and my goodness, I am fan-girling right now because one of my, like, most favorite experts in women's health is here with us today. Dr. Kellyann. You guys might know her as, like, the OG bone broth expert. Uh, in fact, Kellyann, that's how I knew you originally.
[00:02:26] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah,
[00:02:26] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: yeah.
[00:02:26] Carrie Lupoli: Bone broth. And you are here today with us to talk all things health. And we're gonna bring in the corset, the crown, being a, a woman. I mean, like, all the things. I'm so excited. Welcome.
[00:02:39] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Oh, I'm so happy to be here, and well done on this podcast. And, you know, I love that you're talking about Corset to Crown.
[00:02:45] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I would love just to, like, start out talking about this corset, 'cause it is the coolest thing, and I love your use of it and how it hit me so hard. Because in my reality, we're still living with a corset on.
[00:02:59] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. Say more [00:03:00] about that. When, when do you think the corset was put on you? 'Cause for me, I was about seven.
[00:03:03] Carrie Lupoli: My mom was brushing this crazy hair of mine, it was dry, brushing it straight, and I was like, "Mommy, it hurts." And she goes, "Beauty hurts, baby. Beauty hurts." And that was the first moment I think I realized that who I was was not enough. I needed to adjust to become worthy. I, well- So tell me what you think, when you think it was on you first.
[00:03:23] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Well, I know with my mom, one of the things that she would say, it's funny you bring your mom into it, she would say, "Never leave the house without lipstick."
[00:03:31] Carrie Lupoli: Mm.
[00:03:31] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: You gotta, you gotta put lipstick on. Wear, you know- Yep ... Kellyann. She'd always do this to me. "Put on lipstick on." Put a little lipstick on. So, uh, you know, it, to this day, I will tell you, I would say, uh, I've worked through a lot, I've been through a lot, and business is a personal development program in and of itself.
[00:03:50] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yes, for sure. I've learned everything that I need to. I've gotten, I've gotten rattled, kicked, punched, the knives. I've had it all. And, uh, through, when you go through all that, you learn a lot [00:04:00] about yourself. And the one thing that I have not yet escaped fully, uh, you know, 'cause I'm, I'm at a- an advanced age now, and I have no issue with that.
[00:04:08] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I don't go through any personal suffering because of that. But I will tell you that I still feel that insecurity about not having makeup on. I do. I feel very insecure. I always feel like I have to have makeup on, and it bothers me, uh, but I can't get past it. And I swear it's what we're talking about. Yes.
[00:04:29] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: That corset thrown on, with my mom doing this. Yep. Somehow it was a neurological pathway-
[00:04:35] Carrie Lupoli: Yep ...
[00:04:35] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: that was instituted at a very young age. And now here I am at 60, and I feel like I can't walk out the door without makeup ever. And I used to just, you know, would love to just throw my hair back, have good skin.
[00:04:47] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: 'Cause I feel like w- if you have good skin, what's the problem? My skin is great. I
[00:04:53] Carrie Lupoli: have great skin.
[00:04:53] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Well, even if you don't have good skin. Yeah. Yeah, but I'm just saying, if you, like, radiate- Yeah ... and your skin's radiating, like, what do you need, like, to... So [00:05:00] anyway, that is the one-
[00:05:01] Carrie Lupoli: But you know what, Kellyann?
[00:05:02] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. I, I feel like this is the conversation that women have to have with each other. Because as a nutritionist, and you as well, right, as health experts, we go right into, very often, food and protein and bone broth and all of the things. Which is fine, but it's a doorway to a larger conversation to what's going on, what we're doing, and why we're doing it.
[00:05:21] Carrie Lupoli: And, and my mom, to this day at 76 years old, will never leave the house without makeup on. She lives around the corner from me, and she will not come over without makeup on. And I, so I can totally relate, but I go live every morning on Instagram as I wake up, literally morning time, because I said to myself, even though this is hard, I am operating from the corset.
[00:05:45] Carrie Lupoli: I am believing the lie that the corset has told us that I am only worthy on screen in a video. I only have something to say that people will listen to if I look a certain way. And so I forced myself to not. And now I'm like, I don't even care, because when I'm [00:06:00] operating from the crown, I already know who I am.
[00:06:01] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. And it is about identity work, I think, in so many ways.
[00:06:04] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It is about identity work, and it's a, it's a whole programming. Mm-hmm. It's a, a, a way of being. And I love that you're doing that exercise, because that exercise every day is teaching your body, telling your body, "You're safe. It's okay. Go ahead, sister, show it off."
[00:06:22] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. Yeah
[00:06:22] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: And very liberating, I think.
[00:06:24] Carrie Lupoli: Well, I also think it's really around our definition of health. So I'd love to ask you about that. Yeah. Right? So when I think about, I think about health as a vehicle towards purpose, to be very honest with you, right? Yeah.
[00:06:37] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah. And
[00:06:38] Carrie Lupoli: the idea that we need to become the healthiest version of ourselves.
[00:06:42] Carrie Lupoli: And you and I, and I, and I know for most of my career as a nutritionist, it was really teaching people how to eat. But what I realized was, like, I could teach people how to eat all day long, they still weren't doing it, right? Like, they, they were s- looking for shortcuts, ways out, and not sticking with things, right?
[00:06:58] Carrie Lupoli: The consistency piece. [00:07:00] Is that mean we're healthy? The reason why we're showing up, the reason why we wanna actually lose weight, like, is that the healthiest mindset to have? So what, when you think about health, you've been do- you've been in this industry for-
[00:07:12] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Where do you- ...
[00:07:13] Carrie Lupoli: decades
[00:07:13] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So almost 31 years. The j-
[00:07:15] Carrie Lupoli: Oh my gosh.
[00:07:16] Carrie Lupoli: Like, you're li- literally the expert. This is why I'm so excited that I'm here. I feel like you're my mentor in all sorts of ways for this. What is your definition of health now that you are 60, right? Now that you have come through this pathway for so long. Because again, I've, I've been doing this for work for over a dozen years in terms of nutrition, and I am different now than I was when I started.
[00:07:36] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Oh, yeah. So let me just step back for a minute and say what it was like 30 years ago, telling anyone anything about food, telling anyone anything about really institutional wellbeing. And my, uh, my background was very different because I had European training. Mm. So a lot of who I am and my paradigm today comes from European medicine, [00:08:00] studying the values of the Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland, doing a two-year program, and also being trained in Europe.
[00:08:07] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So, uh, being trained in Europe and also being a part of the Marion Foundation, where I spent two years with Dr. Thomas Rau, under his tutorage, learning about real health, about the why. So the first half of my career, all I did was spend it convincing people. So for 15 years, I spent all of my time, most of my time in practice convincing.
[00:08:30] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So the difference between then and now is that everyone... I mean, I go to the gym and there's 12-year-old boys talking about seed oils.
[00:08:39] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:08:39] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Seeing 16-year-old girls talking about how they sat on the vibration plate in front of the red light. Like, this is, for when you're me and you've seen the whole history, it is all inspiring, jaw-dropping, profound.
[00:08:53] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: You have to realize, if I'd say- Wow. Yeah ... "Look, it would behoove you if you went off grains. [00:09:00] Here's why. I'm not saying forever. I'm saying till we accomplish this. This is what a grain is," 'cause I didn't even know what gluten was. I didn't know any of it.
[00:09:10] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. "
[00:09:10] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: This is the studies that are backing this up. So what I'm asking you for, until we give your cellular system time to reboot, it'll probably take about three weeks, I need to d- be able to look at everything.
[00:09:21] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So let's take out the causality of the inflammation for right now, and then we'll put it back in." That was so abnormal. That, that thinking was so abnormal. So, like, to think about keto, paleo, low car- like, the only thing that was around back then that anyone would ever listen to, um, was the diet, uh, what was his name?
[00:09:42] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: He died of a heart attack. What was his name? Atkins. Atkins. Yeah. Yeah. Atkins' diet was the only thing that had any creds at all.
[00:09:49] Carrie Lupoli: Right. But also, remember, like, it was always, and it still kind of is, but at least we're talking more about overall health versus just weight loss.
[00:09:56] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah.
[00:09:56] Carrie Lupoli: Right? And, like, yes, it, like, I, I think [00:10:00] the conversations you were having were almost, like, before its time, because it was weight loss, weight loss, weight loss.
[00:10:06] Carrie Lupoli: It wasn't about health. And
[00:10:08] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: they were missing the mark
[00:10:09] Carrie Lupoli: You're reminding me, though, that we are moving towards health.
[00:10:12] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: We, we are '
[00:10:13] Carrie Lupoli: Cause sometimes I forget that with some of the conversations I still see
[00:10:15] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I'm sure, but, you know, what ch- what changed my life would, a- actually was, like, my save, my savior, my saving grace, was not just having rote education, having this education that was so outside the box- Yes
[00:10:31] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: so outside of normal thinking. I, I mean, Dr. Rau would stick a panoramic X-ray of the mouth and say, "Tell me what's wrong with this patient based on this." He would talk about, like, the seasons. "Okay, so this patient's coming in, it's fall. Why does fall make a difference in this patient presentation?" And he'd have a patient come in from the clinic, from Paracelsus, and it very, very interesting, a very...
[00:10:52] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: The, he was talking about the gut microbiome, and the big class that we had one weekend was all about, uh, the gut [00:11:00] microbiome, and he'd say, the, the whole topic was friend or foe. Mm. Were these bugs a friend or foe? And I remember coming back and hearing about, you know, gut microbiome years and years and years later.
[00:11:12] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Bone broth would not be what it was today, it not, would not have pierced the stratosphere had I not been under Dr. Rau, learned about gut health, so when I was doing all these paleo books, and that one line that changed everything that said, "Mother Teresa would bring these broths to hospitals-" Yeah ... to open up the gut to healing.
[00:11:29] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah. And I thought, well, would, I thought pr- only probiotics could do that. Yeah. Like, there was literally nothing discussed for gut health, and gut health was discussed in a very minute way.
[00:11:39] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah.
[00:11:40] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Probiotic. You take a probiotic, you're good. Nothing. And it was even worse than that. It was, if you take an antibiotic, take a probiotic, and then, then you'll be recovered.
[00:11:50] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So, um, so to, to have that tutorage of understanding the whole ecosystem, where before Americans did- That [00:12:00] was what really shifted my career.
[00:12:02] Carrie Lupoli: What a big foundation for you to be able to speak differently. I always say if you want something different, you have to do something different, but we get so wrapped up in whatever the cultural conditioning is- Always
[00:12:13] Carrie Lupoli: and the times. So you really were a pioneer bringing people to looking at things differently. And so that led you though towards... Like, help me get, bridge the, the tr- in- incredible training that you had. I, I wish we still had training that was based on European standards - Yeah ... than what we have today.
[00:12:35] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: But- It would be gratuitous if-
[00:12:37] Carrie Lupoli: I, exactly.
[00:12:38] Carrie Lupoli: To where you've ended up with really focusing on some of these products that, I mean-
[00:12:44] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah ...
[00:12:45] Carrie Lupoli: I actually went back and looked at how long I've been ordering your products. It's- Aw ... years and years and years. It's so good.
[00:12:51] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Oh my gosh.
[00:12:51] Carrie Lupoli: I
[00:12:52] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: hope you have my Greek lemon chicken broth, 'cause that's my favorite thing right now.
[00:12:55] Carrie Lupoli: Oh my gosh, yes.
[00:12:57] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It's incredible. Yes. Very clean. It tastes- Yes ... [00:13:00] exquisite. That was, like, a stroke of genius, and that was not just me. That was the, the person who has been developing soups for years and years and years, and I got lucky enough that I'm with a company now that could do that. And, uh, man- So-
[00:13:14] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: that he knocked it out of the park. The Tuscan tomato. What? Yes. The, the sriracha chicken, bomb. They're so good.
[00:13:20] Carrie Lupoli: So good. So what brought you from that knowledge to this type of implementation, right? Because one of the things that I always talk about is our six spinning plates, and nutrition as being one of them as a foundation, right?
[00:13:31] Carrie Lupoli: And these plates that we have to keep spinning. And you bridge actually a few different of these plates: nutrition, exercise, hydration, sleep, managing stress, and supplementation. And so I see so many things with supplementation, nutrition, hydration. All of those pieces come together with your work, which is so important.
[00:13:51] Carrie Lupoli: I don't think people even always realize how many different facets of health you cover in your work. How did you get there from your... You, you come [00:14:00] back educated. Then what?
[00:14:01] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It was a clear lineage, because, because exactly, you hit the nail on the head. I was talking about something that was different. Mm-hmm.
[00:14:08] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So when I would go into practice, I would hear the same theorem all the time. You have to write a book. You have to write a book. You have to write a book I've always been a creative. I've always been able to write and things, and I thought, "Okay, I can tackle this." Had no idea how to do it. I was a small-time doctor.
[00:14:23] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: What did I know? So I started going from place to- This is where you have that inside fire. Yeah. You gotta have the fire in your belly, and that fire pushes you out. 'Cause I had small kids. It's very hard to be very proactive when you have small kids. It takes something extraordinary in you to push you out.
[00:14:41] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Mm-hmm. Yep.
[00:14:41] Carrie Lupoli: Yep.
[00:14:42] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So it's like a calling. I mean, I guess that's what you ca- you would say. It's like a calling. And so a purpose, a calling, uh, whatever it is. So I figured out a way to write a book. I f- I went from one place to another. This person led me to this person. I finally was standing before a legendary, [00:15:00] uh, book agent.
[00:15:01] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: He was a book agent. He just recently died. His father was an agent. His grandfather was an agent. And he said to me, "I'm gonna take a chance on you. I think you're a stallion." And I had nothing. I mean, I was not on any platforms, anything. So that one book deal from Wiley Publishing turned out to be a five-book deal, and they were all on...
[00:15:21] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: He said, you know, th- "I know you're into paleo. I have a, I have something on my desk right now, Paleo Living. Do you wanna ta- do you want this?" And I mean, you have to realize that was like, "Ah," 'cause you can't contact people. There was no ins- like, you couldn't contact people. Yeah, it
[00:15:34] Carrie Lupoli: was a different world.
[00:15:34] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: There was no open door. So I was thrilled. So then that led to, you know, Paleo Cooking, Paleo Living, Fasting Diets, you know, all the... So as I kept read, uh, writing these books and realized there was no chat, I, I, there was no funding to have people write these books and everything. Like, it was me figuring out how to write table of contents in my basement with kids yelling upstairs.
[00:15:56] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Then, then all of a sudden Figuring [00:16:00] out how do I translate this into sales, because writing the book is very easy. Even brokering the deal, I find now, is much easier than actually selling the book, having your ISBN number attached to something that shows an accountants of sale.
[00:16:15] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. Yep.
[00:16:16] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Because you're not, you're not gonna get your next book deal if this one- Right
[00:16:19] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: doesn't sell. It's how it works.
[00:16:20] Carrie Lupoli: Yep.
[00:16:20] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So, uh, I had to figure that out, and that's when I jumped online and I s- started figuring out, how do I get online? What broke my, my... What broke through and translated into products was, uh, Rodale Publishing wanted me to do a book, and at that time they were the quintessential publisher because they had Men's Health Magazine and Women's Health Magazine.
[00:16:42] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yep. They had a huge list. Yeah. No other publisher knew how to do that or had that. So it was a big mack daddy. So, uh, I said, "Okay, well, this is what I wanna call the book. This is, this is what the book is, you know, going to be about. This is the positioning of the book." Great, they loved it. "This is what I'm gonna call it, The Bone Broth Diet."
[00:16:59] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: [00:17:00] And they said, "No one will buy anything called bone broth." That was their exact words. They said, "You c- you have to call it something else." And I said, "Well, what would you call something that's actually bone broth?" And they said, "Well, call it soup. Uh, why don't you call it..." I'll never forget it. "Why don't you call it, uh, Super Soup?"
[00:17:18] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: And I said, "Calling this this soup is like, uh, calling the Mona Lisa That Girl." Oh, my gosh. And I'll never forget that conversation. And so, uh, it was that, uh, it was that book with the PBS special that pierced the stratosphere. The PBS special was on the same time as Downton Abbey, and the world was so ready for this- Yeah
[00:17:38] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: for this bone broth, that it did- Yeah ... just as well as Downton Abbey. I was right up there in ratings. That's, uh, you know, that would never happen again. Yeah, yeah. Would never happen again. The world was just ready for it. So, and then from there, people were saying, "You know, Dr. Kellyann, this is awesome, but I ain't making it.
[00:17:54] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I don't care what you say, I'm not standing over a pot. You can throw a slow cooker at me, a pressure cooker, I don't care, [00:18:00] I'm not doing it." So that's when I developed, uh, powdered broth.
[00:18:05] Carrie Lupoli: So hey, real quick before we jump back in, I have to tell you about something that I've just launched because I think it's gonna be a game-changer for you.
[00:18:12] Carrie Lupoli: You know I talk about the BS of the diet industry all the time, but the BS that matters, that we really need are our belief systems, behavioral science, and blood sugar. Those are the three things that are actually the foundation of lasting health, weight loss, and feeling like yourself again. I wrote all about it in my book From Corset To Crown.
[00:18:27] Carrie Lupoli: Well, I finally created a place where you can learn all of it for literally a dollar a day. It's called The BS Club, and every 28 days you are guided through a new season, a new experience, 1% learning that teaches you the shifts that build real consistency without the pressure, without the perfection, or the punishment.
[00:18:47] Carrie Lupoli: No more dieting, no more failing, because that's what the diets were designed to do, to make you feel like it was your fault. We are just gonna deal with the actual BS that builds your best self. See what I did there? [00:19:00] BS, best self. Mm-hmm. So if you've been listening to this podcast and thinking, "I get what she's saying, but I don't know where to start," this is where you start.
[00:19:08] Carrie Lupoli: So go to disruptivenutrition.com/bsclub and go grab your spot now. A dollar a day. You're worth it. All
[00:19:15] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: right, back to the episode.
[00:19:19] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. And, and it just grew from there. And I think that's where it's like, to me, this evolution of your business and your influence, and, and I got you right when you really were known as the bone broth lady.
[00:19:33] Carrie Lupoli: Which is so great. But to me, it's like you were finding solutions for people to be able to win with their health in a very kind of, uh, a world where the corset is on so, so, so many women, and so many people. And I'd love to like get into the fact that you are kind of straddling two, two things here when it comes to being an advocate for health, an advocate for women, an [00:20:00] advocate for longevity, while also being an entrepreneur, a business woman, and wearing the corset yourself.
[00:20:08] Carrie Lupoli: And you know how it's like I feel like a very big responsibility to show up for myself in the way that I try to tell my clients and my listeners to show up for themselves. And
[00:20:16] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: then your kids. Okay. And your kids.
[00:20:18] Carrie Lupoli: I mean, we have kids around the same age, and we were, you know, building our businesses for many years while they were young.
[00:20:25] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yep.
[00:20:25] Carrie Lupoli: So I'd love for you to talk a little bit about the health aspect around being a woman who's trying to do it all, and you have this added pressure of being an expert in the field of health.
[00:20:38] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It has been unpleasant at times.
[00:20:41] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. So say more about that, because I think there's so many women feeling the pressure.
[00:20:45] Carrie Lupoli: They feel that corset that gets tighter and tighter and tighter. But so many times, I think you were operating from what I call the crown, right? Like, you knew your purpose. I think when we are aligned with who you're supposed to be, the hard work is still hard, but it's alignment, [00:21:00] right?
[00:21:00] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I, I... Well, what happens- Well-
[00:21:01] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: is you get into a trance, because you're super juiced about what you're doing And when that dream that you have, that hard work that you have, that build that you've been building, it starts realizing. You don't even... It's the weirdest thing. You literally get into a trance. Mm-hmm. And I was having billions of impressions at the time, literally billions of impressions through my, the work that we were putting out online, and I never thought about anything about that.
[00:21:28] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I never thought about any viral TikToks, never. I never, swear on my life, nor did I think about money. I don't know if that was the smartest thing in the world. I didn't think about any of those things. I really was charging forward because everything, my build, my dream, it was happening more and more.
[00:21:46] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Whole Foods, very, you know, the front, front and center space. Bam, 12 SKUs, happened like that. Yeah. It was almost like magic. Yeah. It was almost like my efforts, my life force was pushing out this magic, and you [00:22:00] get into this, like, quantum. You get into the quantum. But I will tell you, by far the hardest part about everything that I do, everything that I do, you're not gonna like to hear this, but it's the truth, has been dealing with my appearance when I'm working very, very hard.
[00:22:20] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: And what people don't understand is that you are judged differently when you are selling health, wellness, and beauty. Yeah. That is the bottom line.
[00:22:28] Carrie Lupoli: Adds a whole nother layer of pressure.
[00:22:30] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Because I do a lot of QVC, that is a grind. Yeah. Try to do QVC and do, like, be on at, you know, 11:00 at night when you're up- Yeah
[00:22:39] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: at 5:00 because you have another whole business and stuff.
[00:22:42] Carrie Lupoli: Right.
[00:22:42] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: You know, when you're younger, I don't think you think about it as much. You kind of... I, I always say it's more bouncy energy. I could wear, you know, a, a yoga outfit and throw my hair back, and there was very little to do. And when you get older, I feel like your eyes get a little bit more tired and all these things.
[00:22:59] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Mm-hmm. And, [00:23:00] and you know that people are saying, "Should I buy her collagen? Is she inspirational and aspirational?"
[00:23:06] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah.
[00:23:06] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: And I'm very keyed into that, but here's what I'm learning now, okay? That has been my trajectory. That has been the hardest part. I am entering in a different phase, and that is understanding what I offer is sage.
[00:23:19] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: What I offer is wisdom. What I offer is, uh, founder, uh, founder wisdom. That's the best way I can put it. Even how I'm being positioned in my company, because we're going with so many micro-influencers, macro-influencers, all of this, and it's kind of like a breath of air for me because I really get to talk about the things that we're talking about right now.
[00:23:42] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I'm not talking about why an apple's better than a pear, why a pear is better than a berry, why a berry is be- it's not all about that. It's more about guys I've been around for a long time, here is the wisdom I encase. So I don't ever look at a 35-year-old, and I, and this is honest, but this takes work for women that are, uh, uh, you know, in [00:24:00] a more advanced age.
[00:24:01] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I don't look at a 35-year-old and wish I looked like her. I don't look at a 35-year-old and say, "Oh, I wish I had this." Or w- I look at her belly, I look at the... I don't, I don't ever come from that energy. My energy is thinking about, you know, where, what is her, uh, what is her limiting beliefs or what is her thought process where she is now and how can I help?
[00:24:22] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: she's probably,
[00:24:22] Carrie Lupoli: she's probably living from the corset, and you're here, I mean, like straightening her crown for her, and I, I think that is so huge. Comparison is the thief of all joy, right? And I think the minute we compare ourselves to a younger version of ourselves, or the minute we compare ourselves to somebody else that is literally not us, we steal who we are.
[00:24:41] Carrie Lupoli: You, Kellyanne, have influenced so many people over your career, and I find it so fascinating, and there's no judgment at all, because I, w- I used to, before I ever got on a stage, I used to weigh myself in, in the hotel room.
[00:24:55] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Wonderful.
[00:24:55] Carrie Lupoli: I looked for a scale.
[00:24:56] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Wow.
[00:24:57] Carrie Lupoli: And if my number was acceptable, I felt like I was [00:25:00] allowed to be confident on the s- on the stage that day, and if it wasn't, then I couldn't be.
[00:25:03] Carrie Lupoli: But I had something to teach. I had something to share.
[00:25:07] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Mm.
[00:25:07] Carrie Lupoli: But it was this belief that if I didn't look a certain way, I couldn't be valuable enough, and I think it takes us a while to actually realize that, I mean, what you've accomplished is absolutely standalone, right? But I get it. Yeah. Being in health and wellness, we still have this like, like look that we're supposed to be able to pursue, and so it just, uh, everybody is always toggling between the corset and the crown.
[00:25:33] Carrie Lupoli: Always.
[00:25:33] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Always. I don't know if that ever goes away fully. Right. But I can also tell you that y- there is an evolution.
[00:25:39] Carrie Lupoli: I love that. There's
[00:25:40] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: definitely an evolution, and I think the evolution happens about every decade. That's what
[00:25:45] Carrie Lupoli: I've seen. Mm.
[00:25:46] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So I feel like you can welcome that. That's a really positive thing to look forward to in your own life, that know that if you are, you know, listening to this and you're 40, you're going to probably evolve in a lot of, a lot of [00:26:00] your being by the time you're
[00:26:01] Carrie Lupoli: 50.
[00:26:02] Carrie Lupoli: You will. Yeah. I mean, totally. I just want us to be able to, as women, be able to start to realize this earlier and earlier, which is why I love these kinds of conversations. It's why I go into colleges and want to get in front of these young women earlier, because our wisdom should be able to support them in some way.
[00:26:23] Carrie Lupoli: I- nobody ever told me that it was not what I looked like that gave me value. For sure. And I- nobody ever did. For
[00:26:31] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: sure. And I wonder if it's because, um, are y- you're, are you a Gen X? Yeah, so I'm a Gen X, so I feel like the Gen X's were raised by boomers.
[00:26:40] Carrie Lupoli: Yep.
[00:26:40] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: And I just wonder if it's a generational thing I do.
[00:26:45] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I wonder if it's generational, because my mom, loveliest, sweetest woman in the world, not one bad bone in her body, but she was aware of aesthetics.
[00:26:55] Carrie Lupoli: Yep.
[00:26:55] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: She was always very aware, and it was the kinda thing where she, you know, before my father came home, she'd [00:27:00] make sure she'd brush her hair. Yeah. I just remember seeing all of this.
[00:27:03] Carrie Lupoli: Well, there's a fine line between taking care of yourself, wanting to be the healthiest version of yourself, showing up as your best self. 'Cause we can do the same exact activity, put makeup on, right? I have makeup on, you have makeup on. We do it from the corset or for the crown, right? And I think that it's just why we're doing it that makes a big difference.
[00:27:20] Carrie Lupoli: But I think the corset's been so ingrained in us for so many generations that we don't even realize we're wearing it. And I think the younger generation, I think that I love the clean girl kind of thing aesthetic. Yeah. But, but then I know with my girls, we've had a lot of conversations around them posting something.
[00:27:38] Carrie Lupoli: If they don't get enough likes on it, they take it down.
[00:27:40] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah, that's traumatizing to them. You realize that?
[00:27:42] Carrie Lupoli: Right, that's the corset in and of itself
[00:27:45] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: there, right? In and of itself. Mm-hmm. In and of itself, and I remember when, uh, Gary Vee was, uh, he was providing me with, um, I guess you can say online therapy
[00:27:55] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It really helped me, like figure out how you, how you build your [00:28:00] assets online about social commerce. And the best advice he gave me, which maybe you can pass on to your daughters, is you cannot take these platforms too seriously.
[00:28:09] Carrie Lupoli: Mm-hmm.
[00:28:10] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Just post and don't worry about it.
[00:28:12] Carrie Lupoli: I, I love when I see his posts about that.
[00:28:14] Carrie Lupoli: I often forward it on to people that I'm mentoring in business as well, which is why I just, I, I'll go live all day long with no makeup on. I, I don't take it that seriously anymore, and if somebody wants to say something, let them. It's a little Mel Robbins there for you.
[00:28:29] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah. Yeah. It's true, and when, I think when you get to that, that's when you can really blow up your socials and things.
[00:28:34] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: When you can really walk away and not be checking the likes every hour, and you're not worried about that. And that's not even the game in socials anymore anyway. It really isn't about likes anymore. So it's all... You know, that's not how you build your algorithm, so it's all false anyway. It's all false narr- all of it's just a false narrative.
[00:28:51] Carrie Lupoli: It really is, and, and this is why I think w- I look at health as a vehicle to getting to the bigger picture of things. [00:29:00] And if we're not really functioning as h- a healthy person, doing the things for our body that we need to be doing, then we never get to that. Like, the, the piece around longevity that you talk about, what we talk about with wisdom, does not come when we are metabolically diseased when we are absolutely ravaged by stress and chaos.
[00:29:23] Carrie Lupoli: And so i- it's like two sides of the same coin to me. It's like really understanding your value, but also valuing yourself enough to actually do the things that you've been teaching your whole life.
[00:29:35] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It has to be prioritized. It has to be, because that attractiveness that you have that makes other people wanna be in your orbit, it all comes from this cellular health.
[00:29:46] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It all comes from your cells being radiating at such a high, fast, and clear megahertz. Like, you really having the life force that can lift you.
[00:29:56] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah. And, and I think we, we have so much of a conversation around [00:30:00] weight, because I say this, the opposite of weight gain is not weight loss. It's actual true health.
[00:30:05] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Mm.
[00:30:05] Carrie Lupoli: Because we can lose weight in 100 different ways, many of them, most of them, if we're really focused on weight only, are very unhealthy.
[00:30:13] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yes.
[00:30:14] Carrie Lupoli: And so when you think about helping people to become healthy, yes, losing weight becomes a byproduct of that, right? That, to me, is the purpose of your products.
[00:30:25] Carrie Lupoli: People can be using your stuff from the corset or for the crown. So what would you say is the type of mindset of a woman who is doing the things that you suggest, right? Prioritizing protein, looking at some of the supplementation we have to do, have prioritizing sleep, taking care of ourselves. Like, what's the mindset of somebody that's doing it from self-worth and self-love versus from the corset of approval and sacrifice?
[00:30:51] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Efficacy. So in health, the thing that matters most in health is, uh, what you do every day. What you do every day matters. [00:31:00] So when you're not coming a- from a place of worth and you don't have that innate deep worth, real worth I call it, when you don't have that, you have a lot more ebb and flows. Yeah. You have a lot more, um, t- like you're down, you don't wanna take, you don't take your supplements, you know, you don't work out, you go through periods of w-...
[00:31:17] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: But when you're really coming from self-worth, the conversations that you have every day start to change. The conversations that you have inward, the conversations that you have outward, the projects that you take, that you take, that you say yes to, the relationships that you- Mm ... forge in, all of it really starts to change, and so it just trickles.
[00:31:37] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It, you h- it has a domino effect. And so, you know, when you're waking up and you decide that you want some electrolytes and some Verisol collagen, and you're having a little bit of lemon sips, and you feel fueled, and you feel... Y- you're, you're, it's just a, it's a different mindset, and I think we overuse the word mindset, but it's really more about, um, your [00:32:00] ability to emotionally regulate.
[00:32:02] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: You have to be regul- you have to learn how to regulate your being- Uh-huh ... and your emotions, and that's where the whole digestive system, and blood sugar, and understanding the gut barrier, and metabolism, and the brain, and how serotonin, dopamine, GABA, how, how all that plays in. So you don't have to know about that.
[00:32:22] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: That's what you and I do. That's what we teach.
[00:32:23] Carrie Lupoli: Right.
[00:32:24] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: So I'm not telling people that are watching this they have to know the intricacies of that. But understand that you have an ecosystem that is very much like a rainforest. A rainforest does not stand on its own because it's got, you know, one type of tree.
[00:32:38] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It doesn't have As an entire population of species, that is your body. And the thing about it is, it's always communicating, always talking, always communicating, and you are feeding it the signals. So you, you are responsible for your health in that, that inner channeling and that inner signals that are happening all the [00:33:00] time, it's coming from you.
[00:33:01] Carrie Lupoli: Yes.
[00:33:02] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Coming from you.
[00:33:03] Carrie Lupoli: Oh, I love that so much. And I think that that powerful knowledge and realization gives us the opportunity to s- like, choose ourselves versus some elusive, like, number on a scale. I always say, like, does it change how you actually show up for yourself if, you know, you're down or up two pounds?
[00:33:21] Carrie Lupoli: It shouldn't. It should be a, a matter of choosing the identity of you every single day in some way, shape, or form.
[00:33:28] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It's funny, but it's just, we're so habitual as people.
[00:33:32] Carrie Lupoli: Mm-hmm.
[00:33:33] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Scale is not even in my ethos. I, I don't even... I, I wouldn't know what... I don't even know what... I remember somebody was here, my apartment, and they had asked if I had a scale.
[00:33:43] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I honestly could not answer that question. I said, "I don't know, maybe I bought one years ago." I still- Yeah ... I, I don't know. Yeah. "Well, what do you mean? You're a nutritionist. You know, you-" Right "... do nutrition. What do you mean you don't have a scale?" To me, there are so many more efficient markers of- Amen
[00:33:57] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: body's running than- I love that ... the scale. And we're gonna [00:34:00] learn more and more about that as time transcends on, and we learn more, and we get deeper into this whole longevity and AI and all that. We're gonna learn more and more about the markers that matter way more than weight.
[00:34:12] Carrie Lupoli: Oh, my gosh, and without a doubt, because I think that that's the, um...
[00:34:16] Carrie Lupoli: We often think weight, weight loss is going to unlock this level of confidence, and freedom, and peace, and joy in us. In all reality, it, it comes from inside of us, not this number on a scale. And we have to actually be able to keep our body healthy and strong in order to be able to stay alive and purpose-driven as long as possible.
[00:34:38] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yes. You know? That's, that's the whole game, right?
[00:34:40] Carrie Lupoli: It really
[00:34:41] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: is, and- The whole game is don't fall apart. And you know, we, unfortunately, we really get this oftentimes when we're far down the channel. Like, you know, so- Mm-hmm ... like you said, let's, let's just understand this early. Let's- Yeah ... understand that this, this is early, the, uh, early as possible [00:35:00] that, you know, food and, you know, like, eating healthy things and, and thinking healthy and making sure, you know, your body's genetically required to move one hour a day.
[00:35:10] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It's genetically required. I read that. It, it was a published paper, and they talk about what is the human requirements for, uh, human genetics. It's one hour a day, so that's chasing the kids, going up the steps, going to the gy- whatever it is, you have got to move for one hour a day. That is a genetic requirement,
[00:35:29] Carrie Lupoli: you know?
[00:35:29] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah, and it's all about why, you know? Like, I, I refuse for my kids to take care of me when I am older. Refuse. I'm not giving them that r- burden and that responsibility. And
[00:35:38] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: it's a burden. Boy, is that a burden.
[00:35:40] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah, and we all see it today, and yet it's the choices we make today that are gonna determine if that's gonna be true or not true for us in the future.
[00:35:48] Carrie Lupoli: And so, like, one of the things... I, I have a supplement line, and I just know that the supplements are the Wild Wild West. And the reason why I'm so excited that you're here is because we get to see the person behind it, which I think [00:36:00] is really important, but also recognizing that, I mean, you've been in this game for a really long time, and I feel like the trustworthiness of you, your products, the, to your word, efficacy, is an important one to recognize.
[00:36:13] Carrie Lupoli: People can be taking supplements and can be doing things from the corset or from the crown, but us, this conversation just reminds all of us that these are the things that we need to be keep doing for our health, but also for the right reasons. And trusted experts in this field are the ones that we need to be looking towards for answers when it comes to what we should be doing, 'cause it is the Wild Wild West and it is very confusing for a lot of people.
[00:36:36] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It is. I mean, trust is compounded. So you really, I mean, it's something, it's the most valuable thing that you can offer your community, that you can offer the public, that you can offer anyone that you're working with one-on-one. It's that trust factor, and when you've been in the business as long as I have, and you've been able to maintain and deepen that trust with consumers, it [00:37:00] means that, um, you are really being aware and considerate of the need-state of your, I'll use the word demo, of your demo.
[00:37:11] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah. Of the people that are, uh, trusting you. Yep. You have to really tap in. I'm very tapped in to, uh, my cohort. I'm very tapped in, and you- I love that ... you just, you just have to be, and I have two million customers, and I'm still tapped in.
[00:37:26] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah, and that's, that's one of the things that it just, it's proof that what you offer is just an important piece of the puzzle for women and something that you can trust, which is why I'm so glad that you're here, because I love talking about these other pieces and giving them this really practical place to be able to go and feel that you can trust.
[00:37:45] Carrie Lupoli: And I always say, like, I never will recommend a product unless I actually ha- know and have met the people behind it, because again, you know this better than anyone. It is the Wild Wild West out there.
[00:37:57] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: It is. It truly, [00:38:00] truly is, and that's why you wanna go with the, the people who are showing up in a way that you know them, love them, trust them.
[00:38:09] Carrie Lupoli: A- absolutely. So Kellyann, a- I mean, there's so many different solutions that you offer to spin the supplement plate, to spin the hydration plate, to spin the nutrition plate. So just remind everybody where they can go to find you and follow you, 'cause your, your socials are so full of education and value as well.
[00:38:27] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Thank you. I appreciate that. It's... You can follow me @drkellyann, drkellyann.com, or you can follow me on drkellyannofficial, that's my personal page, and I communicate on that. Oh, great. Or drkellyannpetrucci. That's my business page where we give a lot of great information and tips. Okay, great. So if you wanna communicate with me, it's drkellyannofficial.
[00:38:47] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: If you want the great health tips, it's drkellyannpetrucci.
[00:38:51] Carrie Lupoli: Awesome, and on Instagram and all those other things too. All the other ones. They're great.
[00:38:55] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yep.
[00:38:55] Carrie Lupoli: Yep, all that. We'll, we'll make sure we link all of that into the show notes. And if [00:39:00] you had to say what your absolute favorite product is that you offer, you only get one.
[00:39:05] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Oh.
[00:39:05] Carrie Lupoli: What is it?
[00:39:06] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: You're killing me.
[00:39:07] Carrie Lupoli: I know.
[00:39:08] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: You're killing me. Well, do I wanna deal with hormones? Do I wanna deal with... I would say I'm such a, you know, I'm such a bone brother. I just am such a bone brother, and I don't go anywhere without my Greek lemon packets. The flavor profile. The problem with, uh, bone broth when we first started was that nobody could get the flavor right.
[00:39:28] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: Yeah. It was too nuanced. Yeah. Flavors now are terrific, and the lemon, the Greek lemon- It's a
[00:39:35] Carrie Lupoli: standalone. It's a standalone Exquisite
[00:39:37] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: And
[00:39:37] Carrie Lupoli: I think that's the thing people have the hardest time with protein on the go, and you know, like these are solutions that you offer to so many people. Okay, I'm gonna give you one more.
[00:39:47] Carrie Lupoli: What's your s- what would be number two?
[00:39:48] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I would say it's a newer product that's, uh, outside the box, and I would say I love the way the tallow, I have a vanilla tallow. It's got ever so slight scent of vanal- vanilla, [00:40:00] but I've been using it all over my body and really testing it out and just- Oh, I
[00:40:04] Carrie Lupoli: haven't even tried it
[00:40:05] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: I cannot believe... Have the team send you one. I cannot believe how good it sm- it's so healing. It's amazing. I'm
[00:40:13] Carrie Lupoli: obsessed with skincare
[00:40:14] Dr. Kellyann Petrucci: L- like the, like the elbows, the knees, like-
[00:40:16] Carrie Lupoli: Yeah ...
